I am doing some major de-cluttering at the moment – taking my own advice – and simplifying big time! So one of my challenges is - or should I say was – my 5year old’s toys. We don’t have a playroom or second living space – everything is tucked into a smallish L shaped living/dining space including 5+ years of toys! So first I turned to Zen Habits and basically – if you eliminate, there is no need to organise! Love that idea but…only problem is – these are not my toys – so I had to tread carefully. The solution is this gorgeous trunk! We have now agreed that if it doesn’t fit into the trunk – something’s gotta go! It has transformed our living space from toy zone to tidy and it looks good too!
Inspired by Jane Cumberbatch’s Pure Style
I first found Jane at the newsagency in the early noughties -( before I had the internet!!!) – her Pure Style Living was on sale at my local newsagency and I couldn’t believe my luck! I flicked through and knew I had to have this book. I have followed Jane’s Pure Style ever since. I blogged about Pure Style here in 2008. She makes simple happy living look beautiful. Anyone can achieve her look because it’s all about thrifting and making and her spaces are always minimal and serene. I want to jump into any of the pages and live there forever. So relaxed and informal and gorgeous!
Beach house office/work space makeover! (Before)
So this office/work space is actually in our main living area. Yes we are all nice and cosily tucked into what used to be a formal dining room. We never formally dine – we barely dine at all but that’s another topic. We do however spend a ridiculous amount of time at our computers so I think it deserves to be nice. I actually posted this before on my personal facebook page about a year ago as a project – and nothing’s changed!!! SO 2012 is the year! And this will be project NO.1!
It needs to accomodate at least 3 people, the shelf needs to go but some of the office stuff has to stay. I really want to conceal the cords! I’d love to trade the PC’s for macs but the boys won’t be in it! Maybe the towers can go below? We really need new chairs cos although I like these ikea ones they keep falling to pieces. Theres one new desk and mine is the old aqua one that is looking very sad. i’d probably like it to be all in one? Not sure that’s possible? I have something in mind for the wall but i’ll have to trial it first. Wish me luck!
Happy Australia Day!
Summertime is grape time!
Summertime is the time for these juicy green grapes. One of my absolute favourite Summertime snacks!
So all my kiddos are back to school today – phew! But it’s been raining cats & dogs! Isn’t this like a plate of sunshine! lol
It’s all about the simple things
I think I’m gonna add a new category – The simple things – see ya tomorrow!

Old beach houses
There’s a tonne of these old beach houses here on The Sunshine Coast. I love how humble beach houses used to be – so simple and colourful. I think my favourites are the really bright cornflower blue and aqua ones and the little multi coloured cubby! I’d love to have a colourful house that made me instantly happy every time I saw it! Most of us are all so conservative and boring with our white and beige! Maybe it’s time to bring some bold colours back?
Decorating with Bunting
Decorating with bunting is so fun. Bunting is usually made of fabric flags stiched to a tape to create a garland or banner. It instantly adds a quirky fun vibe to any space. I am a little addicted to bunting. It really can dress up any space or occasion. Here's some cute beachy, nautical bunting from etsy. I like the subtle colours and patterns for a beachy look without demanding all the attention.
I have this nautical bunting – it's perfect! Nice & subtle colours and stripes from WhatShesGot
Taupe & White Polka Dot & baby blue Duck Egg bunting from HeidiAdnum
Burlap & Hearts bunting from SweetBennett
Pure white bunting from HeidiAdnu
Love mini painted aqua burlap bunting from Funkyshique
Sand Dollar Bunting from MyNoisyBoys
Straight to the point – Beach Burlap Bunting from sherisewsweet
chevron pillow
You gotta love some seaside, beachy, chevron style decorating right now!
The cutest book ends ever
Aren't these the cutest book ends ever! They can definitely have a place in my beach house.

beach house loo
Like most beach house dreamers I adore wood panneling. So when I did my loo up I knew I wanted this look. I can't believe it did this all myself – except installing the loo and the floor tiling – the rest is my handiwork. I'm embarassed to say the door is still the colour that we bought the house (7 years ago!) – new doors are a new years resolution. Anyway I ripped the old stuff out, painted and cut all the panneling to size and screwed it in – becuse our house is a steel frame – you can't use nails – they just bounce back at you. Then it was on to the finishing top and bottom rails – the hardest part to cut accurately – You can tell this is a diy job but I'm ok with that. I painted the panels white but after a while the knots started to show through so I had to go back and do a sealant paint to get the pure white, clean look I wanted. I'm planning to do the bathroom the same but I am a bit worried about water splashing on the wood?
I'm really happy with it overall – the only thing I hate is the brown aluminium windows – which I could cover with a blind – but contrary to how this photo looks this is the darkest room in the house. So not keen to make it any darker.
So that's my loo – never thought I'd blog my loo- but there ya go!
